Turn On Emoji Emoticons on iOS 4 Devices – Without Jailbreak

Add Some Smilies To iPhone

It’s a little frustrating that iPhones don’t have emojis or emoticons or smileys or whatever you want to call them built right in as a standard feature.
The reality is that they actually do but they’re just disabled and hidden by default and only available under a certain Japanese configuration.
Luckily there’s a free and simple way to enable them on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch running iOS 4 or later.
As this is something of a ‘hack’, it’s possible that Apple could patch it with a software update at anytime.
At the time of writing however, this is still working on my iPhone 3GS running iOS 4.3.2 (April 2011).
You do not need to jailbreak your iOS device for this to work.
Here’s how to do it:
1.  On your device, open the App Store and download for Emoji Free!
2.  Open Emoji Free! and tap the button, OK, let’s do it! A percentage bar will glide across your screen and then additional instructions will be displayed.  Tap OK.
3.  Completely Exit the Emoji Free! app by firstly pressing the Home button and then double tapping the Home button to bring up the multitasking bar.  Tap and hold the Emoji Free! app in the multitasking bar and tap the red X when you see the wobble.
4.  Now tap Settings > Keyboards > International Keyboard > Add New Keyboard…
5.  Tap Emoji to add it.
6.  Now you can access the Emoji keyboard in any app that supports the iOS keyboard by tapping the globe to the left of your space bar on the standard keyboard.
Let us know if this worked for you!
