The built-in camera on all iOS devices is certainly not the top selling point.
iOS 4 did however bring at least some welcome improvements from the software side by adding touch to focus and digital zoom.
In keeping with the norm, the Camera app’s zoom is simple but effective under the right conditions.
Here’s how to do it:
1. Tap the Camera app to open.
2. Ensure you’re in still mode by toggling the still/video switch to the left.
3. Now point the device towards the subject and tap on the screen at the point you’d like to zoom to. The image will auto-focus and the digital zoom slider will appear.
4. Slide the slider to the right to zoom in on the subject.
This tip was tested out on an iPhone 3GS running iOS 4.3.3.
