Sort Into Folders Using The Dock
It can be a real pain to have to arrange all of your App icons into folders. This is especially true if you have quite a few apps and have just got a new iOS device.
During the initial setup in iTunes if you choose to set the device up as a new device instead of restoring a backup, iTunes will sync all of your apps without folders to your device and put them in a seemingly random order across many, many screens.
This means a real pain of a task sorting them into folders. You can of course make this easier by doing it in iTunes and using your mouse but even that’s a pain.
I prefer to do this –
On iPad, you can have up to 6 icons (4 on iPhone/iPod) across the dock and the dock doesn’t change when you flip through the screens.
So to make sorting into folders easier first create 6 folders for your most common app categories and temporarily place those six folders into the dock by dragging and dropping them on the dock itself.
Now you can flick through the screens and drop App icons onto the folders in your dock as you go.
When you’re finished with those 6 folders, drag them off the dock and place your prefered dock apps (or folders!).
This was tested on an iPad 2 running iOS 4.3.2.
