Type Numbers or Symbols with One Movement on iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch

Any regular user of an iOS device will know that the QWERTY keyboard used for pretty much all apps doesn’t have a row of numbers across the top.
Normally to get a number or symbol up you have to tap the 123 key followed by a number or symbol you want and then tap the ABC key to return to the QWERTY keyboard.
This can all be reduced however to one swift movement of your finger by doing the following:
1.  With the default QWERTY keyboard visible, tap and hold the 123 key.
2.  When the numbers and symbols keyboard appears, slide your finger off the 123 key and across the keyboard to the number or symbol you want.
3.  Release your finger.  The number or symbol you choose will be typed and you will be returned to the QWERTY keyboard.
Tap-slide-release, tap-slide-release, say it with me :)
P.S.  This also works if you are looking for the extended keyboard symbols hidden behind some keys such as currency symbols.  In this case, after you slide to your chosen key, stop and hold until the extended symbols appear.
