Restore Apple TV 2 Using iTunes On PC or Mac with Micro-USB

If you’re having issues with your Apple TV to the extent that you need to restore it back to factory defaults but you can’t get into the menus on your TV then use your PC or Mac.
Apple TV 2 has a micro-USB port on the rear that’s being described by Apple as for “service and support” and this is exactly what it will be used for if you call up Apple tech support.
Basically you can do either a software update or a full restore via iTunes but no sync as there’s no internal storage on ATV 2.
Here’s how to do it:
1.  Unplug the power from the Apple TV 2!
2.  Connect a micro-USB cable from your Apple TV 2 to a standard USB port on your PC or Mac.
If you don’t have a micro USB cable you can get one here for about 5 bucks and it can also be used to jailbreak your Apple TV 2 if you wish.
3.  Launch iTunes
4.  Select the ATV 2 from the Devices section on the left.
5.  Click Restore
This will restore the latest version of the Apple TV software and reset all settings.
As there is no media actually stored on the Apple TV you will not lose any data.
