Disable Ping – Another Battery Saving Tip For iPhone, iPod or iPad

iTunes Ping Service Draining iOS Device Battery

There are many ways to save battery on an iOS device and most involve simply disbaling features that you don’t use regulraly or in some cases you may not use at all.
For me, Ping is one of those.  Ping is Apple’s social network for music fans and was introduced with iTunes version 10.x.
When enabled your music tastes and followed artist preferences are shared with other Ping user’s which is fine on your PC or Mac but on an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad it just wastes battery.
Here’s how to disable Ping on your iOS device:
1.  Tap Settings > General > Restrictions
2.  If you have restrictions Enabled, enter your passcode.  If not, tap Enable Restrictions and enter a new passcode twice.
3.  Scroll to Ping and toggle the rocker switch to OFF (which means disabled – confusing, I know)
This was tested on iOS 4.3.2.
