Trail Maps by National Geographic

Navigate through the back-country or your urban jungle with National Geographic’s Trails app.  The app provides all the tools necessary for planning and going on your outdoor excursions, including seamless USGS topo quads and high-resolution Microsoft Bing aerial images you can download onto your device, so there is no need for network access while you are on the trail. Track your trail hikes, mountain biking, runs, kayaking, sailing or just your walk around town.

Key features and functionality:

- Live route tracking, visualization of your route on a map,
- Trip computer, which allows for deep inspection of your tracklogs including visual elevation and speed profiles, and plenty of trip statistics including average speed, duration of trip, and more
- A Map Library providing access to download and manage high resolution USGS hiking maps, and Microsoft Bing Aerial images without needing to access a network,
- Tools to measure distance, position waypoints and pins, search, plus a built-in compass and more!

NOTE: The trail and aerial maps provided within this app are for the contiguous United States only.

Compatibility:

* GPS live tracking and compass require an iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 to be fully functional.
* The app requires iOS 4.0+.
* Due to large file size and high resolution of the maps, please allow for a few minutes for download with a strong WiFi or 3G connection.
* Continuous use of GPS tracking, even if running in the background, can decrease battery life when left unchecked.
